We are long term investors, not traders or speculators. We understand and appreciate the power of compounding, both to the positive and to the negative.
Investment
Philosofy
Our principal investment objectives are to achieve long term capital growth and to protect our investment capital against the effects of inflation. At the core of our investment philosophy is “capital is precious and hard earned, preserve it”. This means we aim to deliver the best risk adjusted returns bench marked for each respective industry.
Although slightly differently applied globally than locally, we see cash returns as largely risk free and as such we aim to add value by delivering above cash returns on a risk adjusted basis. We do not take unnecessary investment risks but rather aim to deliver consistent on target returns. We do this by applying the principle of positive compounding by avoiding negative returns at portfolio level and “averaging in” risk assets where appropriate. Our research, analysis and practical experience confirms that our approach delivers target returns with the least amount of volatility and stress.
Innovation
Can be a double-edged sword because too much untested innovation can diminish value. We embrace and treasure innovation and develop it based on past and present success. Technology is rapidly advancing and improving efficiencies globally. We use technology both in our internal investment process to increase efficiency and transparency and so do the companies we invest. Typically, the underlying companies we invest in, are either well established companies that have a proven track record of innovation and profitable success over long periods of time, or new and innovative younger companies that have quickly proven to be disruptive to established competitors resulting in early yet sustainable success.
Investment tactics
We pride ourselves in having a broad and ongoing understanding of the international business, regulatory and tax environment. Where we do not immediately have an understanding of a specific industry issue or a local regulation issue, we quickly acquire it through our diverse experts network. Whether we require a specialist investment vehicle, a new tax jurisdiction/environment or an innovative administrative platform to manage assets, we welcome all those new tasks and challenges as an opportunity to grow both our portfolio and our knowledge base.
